Biryani, just like languages the taste differs from each state to state in India. Earlier in my school days the biryani used to be a dish prepared only on special occasions in our home. But nowadays this changed as a weekend special and sometimes even a weekday special. I have tasted various styles from Malabar to Mughals and Thalappakatti to Hyderabadis.
In Bangalore during my bachelorhood, along with my roomies we used to travel anywhere for food. I can write a book on various cuisines available in Bangalore. Here we will cut down to biriyanis.
Meghna Biryani, (the name reminded us Sameera Reddy, VaaranamAyiram’s Heroine) located at 1st A Cross Road, Koramangala 5th Block. The first visit dazed us, the waiting time was 2 hours. But we didn’t surrender, we waited. The wait was worth a million, even more than that. The first taste of dum biryani, felt blessed. Literally I was dripping, coz of the spicy and fiery Boneless Biryani’s taste. But still I crave for that, the only irritation is to wait for that. Then we visited the spot often and till now one of the best biryani in town.
Due to recession I have to leave Bangalore and travel to Chennai. At first it was very frustrating but later I realized, Chennai is where I belong. Met my college friends and joined them in all the ups and downs in the Chennai road. I thank god for getting me such craziest friends in the world.
Suddenly that Biryani hunger arouse in me, along with my friends hunted down many places. But none can please me. One day got a call from my roomie, he found that biryani which we were longing. ‘Chennai Rawther Thalappakatti’, a place for authentic chettinad biryani, there are 1000 hotels available in same name but the one located at Montieth Road Egmore was the one which we spotted. Especially that ‘Spl Thalappakatti Biryani’, egg scrambles with dry onions over the biryani, meat was bit deep fried and fried cashews added the feather to its hat. It was a blizzz. We made sure that if its biryani in Chennai then never forgets their taste.
Life was not stable, a flight suddenly took me to Singapore in the name of Onsite. My Chennai days were just in my remembrance missed my friends and it’s time to get new friends in the new country. Andhraites this time, my new team was full of mirapakai’s.
Those Hot & Spicy Friends introduced me a place for Biryani. It was a Biryani Factory, Sankranti Hotels, Syed Alwi Road, Singapore. Wherever I go, I found a place for my taste buds. Here the most attractive part is that masala in the meat of the Biryani, the taste and spiciness made me crazy. The taste used to be heart filling and quantity used to stomach filling. It made me feel like wherever I go in this world, Biryani will be part of it.
In Singapore there are many more options for Pakistani food, heard somewhere that Biryani was introduced by Mughals. So I had a wish to taste such type of biryani. Through a Biryani Friend heard a new place for the Mughal Biryani, Bismillah Biryani at Perak Road, Singapore. At first sight the atmosphere was not catchy and also a sign board ‘No Gravies for Biryani’ disappointed me. But once the Biryani was served I felt no gravy was required. That Tangy taste and the well cooked meat made me feel like awesome. Whenever I’m done, I feel like ordering the second Biryani coz of the taste and quantity as well.
Even after all these varieties my search on biryani will not stop. It travels along with me. Also I do not want rate anything on the list as all the Biryani’s satisfied me to the core.
